Housing developments in Lakeville
contributed by T
This isn't really a ghost story, but maybe
you'll rind it interesting.
One night, D-- and I were driving around,
as per usual. We were reminiscing about how back when we took the bus to
Apponequet, we would pass right by the Malbone Briggs Cemetary. Which wasn't
much of a cemetary, just a small family-sized plot, maybe a dozen stones
as I recall it. But it jutted RIGHT up to the road. Literally, less than
12 inches from the blacktop, there were headstones.
Of course, D-- and I decided to go take
a look for it. We drove down the road our bus used to go. But funny...
we couldn't seem to find it. But it was dark, and that area is very wet
and low lying, so it had patches of fog, so a tiny graveyard wouldn't
be hard to miss. So we drove the road again, looking more carefully. Still
nothing.
D-- said "I KNOW it's here on this road..."
So, of we went, again through the fog and mist. Several passes, and we
just couldn't find it. This was beginning to get a bit wierd. Lakeville
has changed a lot since we went to school, lots of new houses and buildings
in recent years, (in fact, there was a new housing development being constructed
right there on that road) but things hadn't changed all that much.... a
light went on in our heads. All those new houses....
That new housing development on that road.
Just about where we remembered the cemetary to be. It had one of those
nice signs out side of the road by the entrance, with a nice landscaped
patch of flowers. We pulled into the entrance. We looked behind the sign
and it's pretty shrubbery. And saw a dozen or so gravestones tossed on
the ground in a jumble.
We shook our heads, and pitied the people
who were going to buy those nice new houses.
