Haunted Housesitting
contributed by T
This story was passed on to me by my brother
S a few years back.
My grandmother passed on quite a while
back. The house she lived in is one of the oldest in Lakeville, parts of
it over 200 years old, and was left empty for a time. They, my Aunt &
Uncle were staying there for a while. On vacation one timer, they asked
my brother (then in his late teens) to stay at the house to feed the pets
and generally keep an eye on things. of course he said yes.
So, late one night he was trying to sleep.
There was this loud music, brassy, big-band style, that sounded like it
was coming from a neighboring house. (My grandmother's old house is set
pretty far from the closest neighbors, but sometimes at night sound carries
through the woods and fields.) It was keeping him awake. So, annoyed,
my brother went outside to see if he could figure out where it was coming
from.
He went outside. Not a peep could be heard.
Ok, so he figured they must have turned it off. He went back in. Inside,
he could hear the music clear and loud as anything. Outside... silence.
Inside... music.
Another thing he noticed during this stay....
The house had an old outside light near the cellar door. Just a bare bulb.
That light hadn't worked in at least 20 years. Not only was the fixture
broken, but in all that time that bulb had never been changed. It
had sat outside through wind, rain, snow, hurricanes... it was high
up on the wall in an akward place and no one had bothered touching it.
My brother looked up at it. The light was on.
At any rate, this explained to us why S
always refused to house sit there from then on in.
